Each holiday season, the Young Professionals Committee of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce joins forces with Ocean City area businesses, churches, and non-profit organizations for the annual Christmas Spirit Campaign. Since 2010, the United Christmas Spirit Campaign has helped children from local families in need in our community have a merrier holiday season by hosting a shopping event that allows over 70 children the chance to purchase gifts for themselves or for their families for Christmas. These children come from families who may be going through an unexpected financial hardship due to layoff, illness, etc. The event also showcases games, craft activities and an inspiring teachable moment with the children, along with one-on-one time with Santa.
Testimonials from some of our past recipients – Where are they now?
“Fortunately, I had the great pleasure in 2011 of meeting Eunice, whose scholarship allowed me the opportunity to focus whole-heartedly on my academics while I also lived out my life-long dream of playing collegiate softball at Shippensburg University. Recently, I concluded my college career, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree and accumulating 177 total games played on the softball field. Since graduation, I’ve moved back home to the Eastern Shore to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, where I will garner experience until I am accepted into a Physician Assistant Program. Although I simply cannot thank Eunice or the Chamber of Commerce enough for gifting me with such generosity over the years, I will promise to continue to work diligently toward my career goal in order to make those that have supported me very proud.” – Madelyn Justice, 2011 Scholarship recipient
“As a past recipient of the Eunice Q. Sorin Scholarship from Stephen Decatur High School, I couldn’t have felt any more fortunate and grateful for this award. Not only was the expense of college less burdensome for my family, it afforded me a great college experience! I am entering my senior year and will graduate with a Physics degree which enables me to pursue my dream of being a Mechanical Engineer.” – Kevin Ettz, Whaleyville, Md.
” My name is Matt Krall, (SDHS Class of 2015), and I was fortunate to be a recipient of The Eunice Q. Sorin Scholarship three years ago. I am currently finishing my junior year at Salisbury University, working on a Biochemistry degree, and maintaining a 3.0 GPA. I still have one more year to So (2019) but things are going great. The course work gets increasingly more challenging each semester, however, I am motivated and determined to graduate without earning anything less than a B in all my classes. ln addition, I have excelled to the level of being a Student lnstructor; tutoring students who are having trouble in Organic Chemistry. lt’s given me a tremendous sense of self-esteem.”
“I felt the need to thank the people who believed in me and helped me along the way financially. Student loans are really tough and I just wanted to say “thank you” for the scholarship 3 years ago. I realize it’s a lot of hard work raising money to help high school graduates, and many recipients may not return to tell you how much it meant to them, but I for one can tell you it meant the_world to me. I promise to continue to represent The Eunice Q.Sorin Scholarship with pride and respect. Thanks again for your help. ” 2015 Scholarship Recipient Matt Krall – Berlin, MD
